Although best known as a ski resort, the charming village of Morzine also makes a fantastic summer holiday destination. As the snow recedes throughout late spring, the slopes turn into lush green summer pastures and the mountain summits provide stunning views of Lake Geneva and snow-capped Mont Blanc.
The village comes to life with colourful flowers hanging from every balcony and bustling cafes with alfresco seating so their customers can soak up the sun and fresh mountain air. Morzine is a mountain biking Mecca during the summer months with access to 650km of tracks, 10 downhill runs and 4 bike parks, with much available on the Pleney mountain in Morzine itself.
With nature on your doorstep and thousands of kilometres of signposted footpaths in the local area, Morzine provides an ideal starting point for discovering all the flora and fauna that the mountains have to offer. Whether just a gentle stroll or something more exerting, there are enough trails to keep you occupied.
Just a short drive outside Morzine you will find the beautiful Lake Montriond, where you can wander its shores, paddle in the swimming lake, the kids can take a pony ride or you can just lie back and relax in the stunning surroundings. If you fancy a little more of a walk, you can go up to the breathtaking Ardent cascade (waterfall), about 30 mins walk on lovely tree-lined footpaths.
Throughout the summer, Morzine is host to various festivals and open-air concerts. In recent years, it has welcomed the Tour de France (and will do again in the summer of 2010) and the Harley-Davidson Owners Group annual meet amongst many other events. Whether your idea of a summer holiday is activity or relaxation, Morzine provides the ideal location.
