Morzine is a picturesque and traditional ski resort at the heart of the Portes du Soleil – the largest ski area in the world.
It is a long-established French resort, popular for its easy road access (only an hour from Geneva), traditional atmosphere and gentle tree-lined slopes and walking trails. Steeped in tradition, the wooden chalets, slate roofs and stone foundations ensure that the village retains is character.
Unlike many mountain resorts today, commercialism has not yet reached the charming market town of Morzine, allowing it to preserve its original structures and appealing features throughout the town. Though predominantly a ski resort, Morzine has adjusted to the modern sports of today allowing it to cater for all types of mountain activities for all ages and abilities. With perfectly equipped slopes for skiers of all levels, Morzine is ideal for individuals, families and groups.
There are also plenty of challenging runs for the adventurous, with a large number of exhilarating off-piste trails. Runs descending from Pointe de Nyon and Chamossiere are challenging and the black runs from Mont Chéry are not for the faint hearted!
In addition to the skiing and snowboarding activities, there are five snowparks which can keep you busy. If you don’t ski yet still want to be active, you can try snowshoeing or take an ice dive into the chilly Lake Montriond!
Morzine is a town full of life with plenty of excellent restaurants and bars for you to enjoy the après ski, even a few nightclubs for those who want to party until late! The outdoor ice-skating rink in the centre of the town provides a popular attraction for adults and children alike.
The large variety of shops, the regular markets, horse drawn sleigh rides, two cinemas and indoor ice skating rink mean that even those who choose not to ski are never stuck for something to do. The village holds welcome drinks every Monday evening for new arrivals and the ski instructors of the ESF conduct a torchlit descent of the Pleney mountain. If you fancy having a go at some nocturnal skiing yourself, you have the opportunity on the Pleney piste every Thursday!
